Persona and Charater
Development Workshop
The
Palace of Wonders
1-6, $95
Washington, DC
www.thepalaceofwonders.com
|
|
What
do drag queens and clowns (good ones at least) have in
common? They are able to "pull off" their characters
by creating and sustaining believable (or unbelievable)
stage personae. The stage persona can be anything from
an extension of self to a fantastic flaming creature and
finding your inner "queen" is an effective way
to connect with the audience and tell a story. Through
theatre and improvisation exercises, writing prompts,
and movement activities, this workshop will provide a
framework, techniques, and the creative space to begin
the process of birthing and developing a flamboyant stage
persona. Some burlesque or performing experience suggested
but not required.

artifacts while you gawk at human oddities and pretty

lineup so don't miss out! Party favors and festivies to

Brits
be warned: mockery ahead! After a month performing in
jolly ol' England, Trixie and Monkey return home to Baltimore
to flip-n-strip a tribute to all things British. With
friends from across the pond...or
at least with a fake British accent: The regal pomposity
of Dr. Donut, the bawdy, nearly Oxford-educated brains
of Dr. Lukki, a swinging 60's London soundtrack by Momo
Taro and more Benny Hill references than you could fill
a pint glass with! Don't be late...it's considered rude

VICTORIA!
The Stonewall Inn
53 Christopher Street
10-4, shows at 12 & 1:30
$10/$5 w/ RSVP (ftfvictoria@gmail.com)
|
|
Okay,
kids, get your pens and paper out and take some notes
-- there's going to be a quiz at the end of the night!
"FTF" is a term used by some transpeople to
identify that though they may have been born bioligically
male, they have always considered themselves female. I'm
sure that's review for all of you and I don't even need
to Mother Camp it by explaining what a "female impersonator"
is. And just to throw some further gender bending into
this wonderful queer world, now some people with vaginas
(born with vaginas -- an important distinction here!)
have started a party dedicated to "FTFs, Faux Queens,
and the Gay Men Trapped inside our Vaginas." In a
binary gendered world we would simply look at this phenomenon
and say, well, they're just women [intentional switch
from sex to gender] now aren't they? Not quite, my friends
-- "post post" does not go back to the original
thing. Whether you are confused or you TOTALLY GET THIS,
come to this party where Dr. Lukki will spin some edumucated
queer and trans theory on your asses! I'm hosting and
I'M PROUD! By the way, I'm currently writing an essay
about this that can be found on my myspace blog (www.myspace.com/drlucky
-- it's part of the "Monster/Beauty" post.)
It's a great lineup so don't miss Victoria's Duets Night!
Bio King and Bio Queen performers! Gender-bending burlesque,Go-Gos,
DJs, Drag King Shot Boys and Free
Vodka Shots: 1011pm.

As
the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end!
I've been performing with the Lobster Boy Review for 3 or
4 years (hell I stopped counting after all those 40 ouncers)
and am thrilled to be returning, but saddened all the same,
for Lobster Boy's FINAL SHOW! I know, I know everyone always
says "Liquidation Sale! Closing this Location!"
so that you run in and buy all the 1/2 priced shoes but
I think this one's for real! Join us for a champagne toast,
some shedded tears, and a shit load of entertainment featuring
ME!, Trixie Little & The Evil Hate Monkey, Ms. Joule,
Sugar Ann Spice, Polly the Card Girl, my burlesque daughter
Lil' Dutch, Siamese Fighting Fish, and Diver Dave and Sally
Jane Snorkel. That's a hell of a lot of show! And guess
what? We'll be doing it TWICE: come to the 7 or the 10 pm
show! And buy me a drink! Momma's gotta keep the party going
to stay up so late! |

What
do drag queens and clowns (good ones at least) have in
common? They are able to "pull off" their characters
by creating and sustaining believable (or unbelievable)
stage personae. The stage persona can be anything from
an extension of self to a fantastic flaming creature,
and finding your inner queen is an effective way to connect
with the audience and tell a story. Through exercises,
writing, movement, storytelling, and improvisation, this
workshop will provide a framework, techniques, and the
creative space to begin the process of birthing a flamboyant
stage persona.

No,
that's not a typo and, yes, the show starts at 9 pm. WHY?
Because MOISTY THE SNOW MAN, everyone's favorite holiday
accoutrement, will be hosting a very fun holiday show! And
then if you have not had enough (as if that's ever possible!),
yours truly will be gracing the stage at the never ending
HOT BOX! If you really want me to break this up into two
listings then go to the Slipper Room's website and let them
do it for you... If you can't afford 5 bucks a show then
you really need to move on... In the meantime, I love you
endlessly... |

remembers the good old days when she was fresh to the city,
young and eager and robust, and her first job was modeling

and she's not so young anymore but the point is she really
hasn't gotten that far now, has she? Really folks, Dr. Sketchy's
has spawned a book, branches in six cities and three countries,
paper dolls, and a movement. And Lukki is thrilled to be
a part of it as she stands still for you today! You can

which included sharing a stage with the Flaming Lips (Flickr
it if you don't believe me!), I return with great enthusiasm
to the small stage at the Slipper Room. No really, it's
nice to be home among drunk hipsters. Drunk hipsters are
way better than drunk suburban rednecks. That may be an
oxymoron but you know what I mean. I have no idea who's
